My husband and I have different ideas for a will. If he dies first, I get my way. If I die first, he gets his way.  He and I are good friends too.

I don't understand your system for your inheritance . Do you mean when he dies, the money all goes to you and none to your chlidren until you die ?

Yes.  Both of you may have totally different intentions as to who to leave the assets to, even though you may have the same intentions today.  Things change and you are two different owners of the joint assets.

If you both have children from a former marriage, then yes.  Something  better than a will is a living trust.A will goes thru probate and takes a long time and costs a lot of money, but with a living trust, upon your death, your posessions and money go directly to your heirs---who you have appointed
