    is it illegal to fire someone with giving them a reason?

    i'm not sure about ileagle but it sure is unethical, also i beleive you still could be entitled to unemployment benefits fired or not .

    thanks darren ,this has not happened to me ,but really good fellow employee..i will tell him to check on unemployment for sure.it"s not worth it for him to get a lawyer for sure.

    I don't think a reason is necessary - the employee usually knows what they've done.  I do think that their last pay check has to be given to them.  Also, about unemployment.  If you get fired for cause you don't get unemployment.
