Comprehensive major medical includes all the basic types of coverage:
- Hospital expense insurance (room and board cost in case of hospitalization, cardiac care, intensive care, operating room, drugs, anesthesia, x-rays, laboratory charges etc.
- Surgical expense insurance (surgeons’ fees, other costs related to surgery, anesthesiologost, assistant surgeon). In some cases this insurance might also cover the operating room if it is not covered by other insurance.
- Physicians’ expense insurance (visits to a doctor’s office, house calls, doctor’s hospital visits) – sometimes this insurance is also called regular medical expense insurance.
- Major medical insurance (broad coverage, usually cover expenses from 250.000 to 1 million). Major medical plans cover most of your needs so if you have one of those, you are most likely safe and do not need additional prescription drug coverage.
