Well, my thinking was that if the person in the glass house accuses someone of doing something that they themselves are guilty of then that makes them a hypocrite which is the whole point of the adage. In fact, if you want you can type the phrase into Wikipedia and one of the definitions is hypocrisy.

Police should be paid the most because by enforcing the law they maintain an orderly civil system which is necessary for the successful operation of the other two. The others should then be paid the same because they essentially either work together or have similar functions. Where I live and I think in most areas of the country fire and rescue operate out of the same department. What ever the case both are necessary for public safety, but couldn't operate without the police providing law and order.
Hard to say but, Venezuela hasn't got a great history of treating whistle blowers as heroes and most experts think that they made the offer because they don't really expect him to come there. It gives them a boost with the America haters of the region with little risk.

As an atheist I think that life evolved and that a divine creator is complete fiction. On the one hand with evolution you have empirical evidence, logic and reason to support it. But, religion is supposition and faith which is arbitrary, and totally without any form of verification. It files in the face of logic and as our knowledge increases the things that religion explained become fewer and fewer. In my opinion, religion is like a soothing balm, it makes people feel better and does provide a certain structure to relationships and life. But, it's a still a deception, in my opinion.
