Because in Islam there can't be seigniory for a non muslim on a muslim generally. You know that the man has the greatest affect on the members of the family and they are affraid that the non-muslim husband makes the members of the family leave Islam, so they try to put the family in the safe side , not to have problems in the future and live happily.
