I believe Narcotics Anonymous , AA etc. are for people that have been through a recovery program first, a hospital for addicts where doctors and nursers are there to help you recover, with medication, if needed. I know thats what I did. There were people there worse off than I was, and were hospitalized for longer periods of time. The nurses were wonderful, they were always there for you. We had meetings every day where people that had already been through recovery, and they talked about how hard it was for them, but how they recovered. It also afforded the patients the time to ask questions. I didn't enjoy going to the meetings, but I had to attend. I walked out a couple of times, but I would explain to the nurses why I did, and they never made me go back. Most of the time I would sit and just tune them out. I found a wonderful counselor that was able to help me - and, yes, with medications. I believe drug dealers should go to jail, not the addicts - they need help to recover, and I don't think they can get that while they are behind bars. Sometimes they're able to get drugs while in jail. No, I don't think jail "should be the first option."
