Interestingly, Nora chose two vastly different chronographs for what I would consider her versatile daily wearers. I don't know Nora well enough to be sure – does she need a timer to make sure she link gets the perfect jammy soft-boiled egg? Is she link a F1 enthusiast using her chronograph to time link Lewis Hamilton's laps?
In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to describe the Classique 7337 as an endangered species. It feels like link complicated precious-metal dress watches with high-grade, fully specced-out movements are harder to find right now than at any point in the link past 30 years. Although I'll admit I find the minuteness of total changes between the 2020 and 2022 iterations of the Classique 7337 to be a bit silly, I'm still happy to see Breguet experiment and iterate on the 7337 formula as often as it deems link appropriate.
I like the playful Air-King script, and link with the yellow, link coral, and powder-blue 41mm link Oyster Perpetuals discontinuing at the same launch, I want to see the Air-King replace them with its lighthearted approach.
Also, I have to say it: Porsche Design and link Orfina called, and they want their watch link design back! link I’m not saying the Sinn is a copycat, but the looks aren’t exactly without some inspiration from the OG black racing chronograph.
Looks like we made it! Well, to episode 100, at least. To celebrate hitting the 100-episode milestone, Jason and James have decided to treat themselves to a shorter show link as the guys link take a quick look back to the start of The Grey NATO. After the brief retrospective, don’t miss the introduction of a link new Q&A format for future episodes and preliminary details for the true Episode 100 event – a hangout with Jason and James (along with others from the HODINKEE team) in NYC next month.
While undoubtedly a fun activity and a decent way of making sure link your kids, nieces, and nephews all have a quartz watch that you won't have to worry about, it turns out, unsurprisingly, that a $50 bag link of watches is more of a gimmick than a good way to get a deal on a watch. That said, if you have a HODINKEE expense account and you don't use it to buy bags of watches – then you're kind of the problem, aren't you? While I may link not feel like a winner, I definitely haven't lost anything.
Of course, the watch features the vintage-style "Dot-Over-Ninety" (DON) design on the aluminum bezel. The crystal is sapphire, but shaped link with a raised shape like a vintage Hesalite (plexiglass) crystal, featuring link an anti-reflective link coating underneath.
Let's get some specs out of the way. The SLA065 is a steel dive watch that measures 41.3 link mm wide and 13.1mm thick (Seiko does not provide a lug-to-lug length). The water resistance is 200 meters, and it has drilled lugs, an anti-reflective double-domed sapphire crystal, a "super-hard" coating for the link steel case, and a screw-down link crown.
I tend to look link for three criteria: Lightness, legibility, and water resistance. Any function beyond these three things (a 60-minute bezel, a lap timer, power, heart rate, etc.) is a "nice-to-have," but should be relegated to your head unit – be link it a Wahoo or a Garmin – which is ultimately going to be easier to link see at a glance anyway.
With the most obvious pick of the week, Rich brings his favorite watch of all-time, a 1016 Explorer, to the Vintage Journal – this example, a '69 with all the right link patina, is one to remember. Saori and Sean keep us grounded in the link world of non-Rolex with a Tiffany & Co. and a LeCoultre Calculator, respectively. Read on for the full story on these three and/or click through to the link Vintage Watches section of the Shop to get straight to all of the watches.
