This is about as pure a HODINKEE experience as you're going to get. Three watch lovers talking about dozens of new releases just a few hours after they were unveiled, obviously giving each other a hard time in the process. Between Seiko's announcement in June and the arrival of the SPB313 at my door a few weeks ago, I managed to forget everything I had learned from James' Introduction link post. The changes that make this SPB313 more than a strict reissue of Seiko's classic 6105-8000 weren't immediately apparent to me, something I'm taking a risk by admitting to Seiko fans who make up one link of the most detail-oriented groups I know. But somewhere deep link in my brain, I knew something wasn't quite "right."
These are two heavy-weight champs here, with similar characteristics in several ways link – but market dynamics might say otherwise. Because at the time I recorded the video above, the average transaction price for the Le Mans on the secondary market was around $235,000 – for a $52,000 watch. This is another reason why link comparing the Le Mans to the Canopus 3861, or frankly any other chronograph on link Earth, makes no sense at all.
Unfortunately, in retrospect, some of the stuff that came out of the industry's apparent willingness to put a lot of money into throwing link everything at link the wall and seeing what stuck, were plenty of watches that seemed mind-blowing at first glance, but which have not aged well from a design standpoint (and which, on top of that, often worked poorly link or not at all).
Finally, for some inexplicable reason, the Series 1 is one of link the most link comfortable-wearing watches I can remember recently. Maybe it's the way the slightly longer lug length balances out the 38.5mm case. My only hope is that the Series 1 may eventually be made in a more affordable case material (like stainless steel or, in the case of the forthcoming Ghost, I'd guess we'd see link titanium), which could be the key to Fleming unlocking a wider audience (like myself).

We have audacious goals to bring more women into the brand and get them to consider Audemars Piguet. And we have so many women in leadership in our company, as well. Half of my leadership team is made up of women. Half of our boutique directors are now women. link And I also think that we are not talking about ladies' watches versus men's watches. We're just talking watches and whoever is wearing the watches. And I think speaking in a more neutral or link gender-fluid way link is the way of the future.
The link watch is comfortable enough and easy to read, even with its link unusual time display, though compulsive wrist-shot selfie shooters might get frustrated with how quickly the display turns off after link pressing the button.
At first glance, to me at least, it was just another link one of those obscure-looking pieces that constantly pop up on my Instagram "explore" page. Another vintage find link that I can't quite place. A "save link for later" watch.
