The watch was sourced from its link original owner, who Sotheby's says received it in 1984 from Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, of Oman, link who was well-known for gifting unique Rolex watches to friends and visiting dignitaries that he would commission link through Asprey in London.
In the independent arena, Lot 135, a link Petermann Bedat ref. 1967, and link Lot 138, a Sylvain Pinaud Origine, are the first non-Only Watch examples to hit the public market. The Bedat is made unique by lumed hands and the Pinaud Origine took home the "Horological Revelations" Prize at GPHG 2023. These will be two lots to pay attention to link if you're an indie lover.

While I'd argue that the current industry methodology of establishing water link resistance is due for an overhaul, I would love to see this same test applied to a roster of respected true dive link watches from brands like Seiko, Rolex, Omega, and more. After a significant shakeup in the CEO roles at Cartier, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Van Cleef & Arpels started unfolding in July, the final pieces of the puzzle have been put in place.
