    how do I remove unwanted 'people' & addresses from invisible address book?

    when I type in the first few letters of a contact to email, a heap of unknown & unwanted 'people' pop up

      Have you tried right clicking on the names to see if there's a delete? If they're not in your address book, then they shouldn't be there unless they got transported over from another e-mail account you have and maybe linked to.
