      It should be converted to a JPG before trying to attaching it. You may need a photo tool to do this if you don't have one try GIMP it's a free download that will let you edit photos.

          After scanning you will be asked if you want to save the item scanned and in what type of format. Because this is a photo, you would choose to save it as a .jpeg file and name it whatever you want. Before sending your email, click on the attachment icon, locate the scanned .jpeg file that you have named, double-click on it, and your file should become an email attachment.
