                Life is a struggle and very difficult, somethings are just out of our control. Maybe you or he will be better off this way? I don't know how anyone can tell you why, we really can only guess.

                Sorry to hear about this situation, hope it gets easier for you in time and you will be reunited soon. The only one that may have the answer is God, you may want to ask Him?
