He was in Hades. Hades is sometimes translated as hell. Hades contains the place of Torments and the place of Paradise. Our souls go here when we die until the day of judgement. Jesus was in Paradise for those three days while he was in Hades.

Peoplelover: I know you are not a religious person and I don't want you to feel that I am trying to shove my religion down your throat. But...If you do ever read your bible and you would like for me to give you the verses that explain this, then you let me know.
