whom would i contact to analyze a quartz rock that is possibly millions of years old?

i found a rock that appeared to be a fossil. a local lapidary owner said it was 100% silica with scorch marks; he believed it is as old as the planet itself. how could i determine that?

I would suggest going to your local university and find the geology dept and speak to one of the professors there, he or she can possibly answer your question or maybe direct you to someone that can.
