      My parents used to have the registration on the car in both their names Mr. Whiting or Mrs. Whiting, my Dad had to pay for and sign the registration. When Dad died my Mom put the car in her name and my name in which case either one of us could pay for and sign the registration (i.e Mrs. Whiting and 6dogs4us).

        As far as I know the person who's name is listed first is the person who registers are car or cancels the registration. Check with your DMV to see if this is the same for them.
