    I think that it would depend on the procedure being performed. These days they do some fairly impressive non-invasive surgery, where they try to avoid cutting you open, like they use to in the old days.
    Please let us know what type surgery you are talking about.
    Are you talking about cardiac bypass surgery which can require the chest be opened or having a stent placed in your cologged arteries via the groing or wrist?
