    I am trying to do a mail merge and when the first digit of the zip code is 0 it won't print

    You will have to go in and add the 0 manually to all the zip codes that start with one. I used to do mail merges all the time and would add the 0 to each individual envelope in the finished merge. It won't show up in the data part, but in the end result you can add it (at least it will in Office Suite).
    Possibly you could put a period before the zero (unless it is alpha-numeric sensitive). Might be a waste of time if this is a one time thing though.
