A lot of things can slow a computer down, hardware wise you may need more Ram and a bigger hard drive or a faster processor.
Software wise a good cleaning of temp files and junk files or duplicate files can solve the problem. Then optimize the hard drive.
You can find good software that will find and delete these files for you.
