What do I need to transfer my files and documents from my old XP computer to my new Windows 7 computer?

If you are talking about separate computers and you still want to access the old files without using the old computer, yes. Get yourself a back up hard drive and transfer all files from the old computer to it. Then connect the new computer to the back up hard drive and you'll be able to access the files that way without having to load them into the new computer.
