Suckers grow from the main stem of the plant at the terminus of a branch. All you need to do is pinch them off between your thumb and index finger and discard. You do not need to pinch all of them off, just some. This will make the tomatoes bigger, you won't get as many but they will be bigger.

One thing to remember (at least according to my husband the tomato gardener) is to never touch a tomato plant if you smoke cigarettes, cigars etc. There is a virus that you can transmit to the plant, I believe it is Tobacco Mosaic Virus. If you smoke you need to wash your hands thoroughly before working with tomatoes.
