You can use Skype: http://www.skype.com to talk to your partner, make sure he uses the software too. You do not need to install any additional audio drivers for Skype, your laptop has all that it needs to hear your partner and probably a microphone too. You can buy a camera at the local computer store near you home, it usually comes with installation instructions.
