Should the US government legalize prostitution?

Would it be better to have prostitution organized rather than leave it to the hands of the criminals to abuse and take advantage of your women?

Would you like to tell me what my limit is on how many times I can mention my religion since I offended you yet again by not accepting your decree that it's NOT OK with you that I mention it where you don't want me to mention it? No way should prostitution be legalized. People view something legal as "good" or "ok to do" therefore it would promote young girls to think its ok. I'm actually shocked at the amount of people on here who think it should be legalized. Legalizing prostitution won't stop what goes on behind those doors, so many of these women get abused and trapped into that life style.

On the other hand, if I were to TRY and see the good that would come out of legalizing prostitution I guess it would be that engaging in the act would go down as the "thrill" wouldn't be there as much…. This being said, that’s the only good reason I can think of that would come out of it.

Yes and it should be over seen like any other business. If a woman or man can make money off their bodies doing something they would probably do on a regular date, why the heck not? Once a month STD tests should be a must however. I see no difference between them getting paid for sex and the girl who accepts a 2K bracelet from the old man she's "dating".

Yes I think it should be legalized. Girls who become Prostitutes usually have Family who are dysfuntional.They run away from home and are picked up by a Pimp and introduced in a life of sexual and Physical Abuse and many times are killed.Its not a glamorous Life by any means.By legalizing Prostitution it would eliminate those disgusting predators called Pimps and there would be mandatory Screenings for STD.

Prostitutes are just as likely, if not more to be abused by the people they surround themselves with. This lifestyle is full of drug addicts and a whole slum of people who don't value themselves. I highly doubt putting a "legal" tag on this would stop any of the drugs, alcohol and abuse that come with the "job".

I was saying " eliminate those disgusting pimps" No, I dont believe it would elimiate alcohol or drug abuse in prostitution but its just as prevalent in our mainstream societies. I stii think it should be legalized for health reasons and theire own personal safety.

I'm stuck on this one. Many good points made here, but the moral issue is something that I don't think I can get past. Selling your body is just plain wrong even if you take religion out of the equation.
