AWL= ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE AWOL= ABESENT WITHOUT OFFICAL LEAVE. Slang ACKWILLY - OVER THE HILL - DID A FLIT. Ex Royal Australian Artillery Gunner.

It means your in BIG TROUBLE in the Military.
    USS TRUETT FF-1095 '74-'78

It is meant and said as AWOL or Absent With Out Leave. It is a military term or acronym. It means that any soldier or military personnel who takes an unauthorized leave of absence of 30 days or less, is guilty of such as stated by the UCMJ. (Uniformed Code Of Military Justice).(A Misdemeanor) However after 30 days of becoming AWOL such service member shall be charged with the crime of Desertion. A crime punishable by death during times of war as determined by a Military Court Martial. During times of peace or non war this crime is reduced to a dishonorable discharge which greatly reduces your chances of ever gaining any type of gainful employment anywhere.(A Felony of the worst type just under TREASON). Unless you want to work at a McDonalds flipping hamburgers at minimum wage for the rest of your life. I would not recommend this.

It means in military terms Absent Without Leave and if one does so it also means you are in a heap of trouble.

It means about 3 month in the stockade when you are caught. Ex Royal Air Force Police.
