      depends on the model but the original pet safe doors you just unscrew from the door or wall and there are two screw, one on each end of the frame that hold the top rail, remove these, slide the old flap out and slide the new one in, reinstall screws, install frame back on wall or door. My dogs have the XL doors and usually manage to tear at least a couple flaps a year. Hope this helps
