    Under the Hipa agreement if a nurse talkes out publicly about personal matters are you responsible to pay a bill. Personal information was given at my son working place and co-workers heard and he knew nothing about --should I be accountable to pay the ER bill and doctor on staff. Who can I contact? She was fired!

    In November of 2012 I had surgy and OD I was taken to the hospita, in a small town whom everyone knows everyone. One of the nurses goes and tells her husband and her husband tell my son at work in front of his co-worker! My son knew nothing about it. I was a personal matter and I told no one about what had happened! My son was embarrassed and furious and drove 40 minuites to speak to me about the situation! I spoke to the hospital and they said they had done nothing wrong! I told them that I was not trying to sue, but that I felt that I should not owe them anything for the damages done! They did let the girl go/fire her. I don't think I should have to pay! For damages done and of course it's all over town know!

    You have to pay your bill no matter what. HIPA only states that a person working for a hospital, doctor, even medical billing assistants cannot talk to anyone about your medical issues. The nurse was fired which in this case was appropriate. There is nothing more that can be done, unless you wish to sue the hospital.
    You need to hire a lawyer, he could tell you. Possibly defamation of character.
    What could I sue for?
