I was told that using a hot cloth to the back of the neck alternating with a cold cloth to the back of the neck would ease a headache. I've never tried it. When I get a headache I want immediate relief so I take two aspirin.
The burns on your skin make you forget about the other pain

(Usually you would use a cool cloth to get a helpful effect.)

Soak feet in hot water and put ice pack on forehead.
It's supposed to be a cold or cool compress on your forehead, b/c most bad headaches and migraines are caused by dialation of the blood vessles in your head.( them getting bigger and engorged ) and a cold or cool compress constricts the blood vessle in your head, thereby releiving the pain.

Why did you vote down my answer? Are you trying to make it look like nurses do not have a sense of humor?
A hot rag is for sinus pressure and headache... Cold rags are for vascular headaches.
