There are so many utility programs to choose from. I recently started using Tune Up utilities 2011.
http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/ So far I like it, because I can use or not use all the different settings. Some programs don't give you a choice. But its really personal preference. Using a flash drive for you pictures is a good idea. I just added a second hard drive to my computer and put my pic on that, but I also back them up on a flash drive. Nothing like losing pictures you can't always just take them over again.
