Because some people are just selfish and ignorant. They feel that if another group achieves anything that it will mean that their group will have less. They don't realize that the uplift of any group can have positive ramifications for society as a whole. Today's ghetto dweller could become tomorrows heart surgeon, saving the lives of many people if they are able to receive a good education.
