why do rechargeable sealed lead acid batteries 'die' so fast?

Every sindle appliance I own that uses these batteries dont work anymore because the batteries will not accept a charge. Worse is that most of them are less than a year old. These are the type of batteries used in UPS (uninterruptable power supplies) and power tools as well as other products. Is this another case of China 'dumping' substandard and hazardous products on Americans?

Because maybe those batteries really don't work as well as other batteries and maybe you should try new batteries.
