It is an NSAID, non steriodal anti-inflammatory drug. Like all NSAIDS, long term use can lead to ulcers, liver problems, heart problems, and possibly stroke. Only take the minimum amount needed to help you for as short a period as possible.

Good answer. I just wanted to add that you should never take asprin and ibuprofen in the same 24hr period.
