Snapping turtles hatch in the wild after about, on average, 80-90 days. Mother come on shore in late June-early July to lay eggs.

I used to love catching the young hatchlings when I was a kid, I lived by a big canal, and would keep a few of them as pets in my fish tanks, until they were to big and started to eat my fish. Then I would take them out and smash them with my dad's hammer... Just kidding, then I would let them go back into the canal.

They really seem to have cute personalities, maybe it was just my imagination, but I believe animals have much more intelligence than science gives them credit for...
