my husband is a funeral director: he suggests a car wash, out on the corner with a sign, "need help for grandma's funeral" talk to the directors at the funeral home. are there any family members who could get loans? go to the county (but there won't be a funeral there will be a simple direct cremation type of service.) your family could gather at your home after the direct cremation.
he also suggests, keep the cost of the funeral down. he feels it's not necessary to spend a lot of money for your loved one's death care. family and friends could go to the mortuary and make donations ... word of mouth type of thing.
