What effect did the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 have on the city itself?

Only 2% of buildings were destroyed by the earthquake,(the fire did most of the damage)

It also discovered that city hall was improperly built and it collapsed in the quake. Pictures and investigation proved that the builder cut corners and built a poorly designed building. The new city hall is beautiful and looks similar to the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.
