    i am 45 years old. my period over 1 week and 5 days ago now it is back on, why is that

    Are you on the pill? I think I would go the doctor.
    It sounds like your period is late and you're worrying ahead of time. Twelve days is not much. Oh, could you be pregnant? Of course you thought of that!
    Sounds like menopause could be an issue. It could be a multitude of things. Best to go to your doctor and be sure you don't have something else sinister going on.

    This usually happens because of anovulatory cycles. When a woman begins to approach menopause or peri-menopause, she begins to not ovulate every cycle. When a woman does not ovulate, she doesn't produce progestereone. Progesterone is one of the main hormones that control how vascular the uterus becomes and when to start the mensus.
