    Why is part of the F train called the "Culver" local?

    NYC MTA train line, "F" in parts of Brooklyn it's known as the Culver local. Why?

    Because the original Steam Railroad was built by Andrew Culver.

    The Prospect Park and Coney Island line

    The BMT Coney Island routes kept the popular names they had before being absorbed into the Brooklyn Rapid Transit System (BRT). The BMT, Board of Transportation, NYC Transit Authority and now MTA all kept the tradition going.
