What is the difference between the old food pyramid and the new plate icon?

The main difference between the old and new food pyramid is in the dose of each ingredient. The old pyramid suggested that all fat is bad, and didn't separate between good fat and bad fat. It suggested to eat less fat and more carbohydrate. This lead to obesity because people just ate a lot of carbohydrate thinking it's healthy, without concerning the amount...
The new pyramid (Harvard School of Public Health, 2005) suggests a more balanced diet, and includes more fat (mainly of the "good" type) and less carbohydrate.
There are many alternatives - a few "oriental" food pyramids, such as Mediterranean, Latin and Asian, and even a vegetarian.
