    Depends on your definition of fighter plane> Bi-planes and tri-planes in WW1 were used to hand drop bombs on the enemy troops and once they found how to time the bullets through the propeller blades a lot were fitted with machine guns.
    Veteran is correct in saying Germany had jet powered aircraft towards the end of the WW2. Fortuneately not in time to alter the outcome.

    The Nazi's invented jet powered aircraft near the end of WW2 in Europe.
    originial planes were to be for recon work then the pilots started to shoot at each other with pistols and thus aerial warfare was born
