CS Lewis wrote many fine books. Read "Mere Christianity" if you want to know the basics to understanding Christianity, or why someone should believe in it. He also wrote a fine trillogy, sort of a science fiction books called, Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength.
You won't go wrong in reading any of his books.
