Depends on the type of mower you have.

If it's a 2 cycle engine or 4 cycle engine.

If you know that then you can get the right oil.

Is there a separate oil tank or is oil mixed with the gas.

If it's mixed with the gas get a good 2 cycle oil and mix as to the directions on the can.

If it's a 4 cycle engine with a separate oil tank and has an oil filter get a good auto type oil, if it don't have an oil filter get a non detergent oil.

P.S. Don't forget to change the filters ,oil and air, when you change the oil.
You can check your manual if you have one, It's all written there. If you don't have a manual, The standard oil that's being used in lawn mower is 30 weight non-detergent oil.

The best thing to do is ask at the local store in your area that sells lawn mowers, or fixes lawn mowers.
