It can be. The bacteria can travel to your heart or brain.
If you have an infection it is best to see your dentist asap.
Until you can visit with your dentist you can rinse your mouth frequently with 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 2 parts water. Rinse and spit out. You will also want to disinfect your tooth brush two or three times a day by soaking it in water with clorine (Clorox) 1 part to 4 parts water.

Any infection can be deadly if left untreated. Yes, gum infection could potentially be deadly.

Friends sister went into a long coma due to infection of the gums. Regained consciousness but never was right in the head after that. Permanent brain damage. Go see the tooth guy tomorrow.
