Default do mean "this is how it's gonna be if ya don't decide you want it different".

For example, the ring tone of a cell phone is preset, and you can change it. The preset tone is considered "default ".

default do have a meaning. It mean you owe something. ........like if you are in default over  a loan, it mean you behind on your payments on a loan. Or it can mean, the other team win by default.........Like if not enough of your players show up for your softball game, then the other team win by default, even tho'  nobody play the game.
