      Yes..it might do because when the power supply dies, it affects not just the volume, but the sound too. Leave it powered overnight. If this doesn't work, you might find it more worthwhile to buy a new one than pay to get it fixed...as this is likely to cost quite a bit. Hope this works for you !!!

        Have you tried charging it from the PC...or via a mains adaptor ???

          Charging it would help the sound? I'm just asking because I know nothing at all about ipods.
