To permanently delete pictures and other files from your computer, you need to transfer them to your computer 'trash bin' or 'recycling bin' and then delete its contents.

On a PC: Your recycling bin icon is on the desktop. But you can right click any file and select the 'delete' option to send it to the bin folder. Or simply click on the file once then press the 'delete' button on your keyboard. Open the bin folder and in the toolbar select the 'Empty the Recycle Bin' option.
On a Mac: drag the file you want to delete to the Trash icon on your dock. Open the trash folder by clicking the icon and press the 'Empty' button at the top of the window. Click OK in the window that pops up.
