    How do I squelch this: "connect directly to your AIM buddies?"

    It's driving me nuts in google email in box!!!!!

      Click on the little down arrow in the 'chat' box on the left sidebar and select 'sign out of chat'. This should discourage any further little popup ads from AIM when you log into your Gmail.
