    I pay a little extra on my house payment every month. Someone told me it would be to my advantage to save the money and make one payment in Jan. Is there any truth too that.

    Depends on how much interest you make on the saved money. Generally, the interest on the mortgage is more than what you could make on saved interest. You can also make a half mortgage payment, twice each month, and pay off the balance quicker.
