    It is normal to feel some numbness in the groin area after an inguinal hernia repair... TOTAL numbness could mean that a nerve was inadvertently clipped. If the total numbness persists, you may want to have a reexamination of the area, and get yourself a lawyer familiar with medical cases.
    It should eventually go away but it may not.
