can an unsigned will be valid

divorced parent died intestate leaving only one surviving daughter. Now the daughter (granddaughter) has produced an unsigned will stating that the estate be 50:50 between daughter and granddaughter to override the intestacy rules.
The will is however, UNSIGNED by the deceased parent (father/grandparent)

If someone dies intestate the estate of that person by law passes to the next of kin. Partener if married children of the deceased if not married. To my knowledge a unsigned will is not a legal document, wills must be signed and witnessed.
