You’ll want to put ice packs around your entire neck, not just on the outside of where the surgery was done and suck on ice chips in a constant stream for the first four days.

After that I don't think there's much choice. If you can blow your nose that might not be to bad, but even coughing or hacking would really hurt, maybe even tear the scar back open.

What does it state on the cereal box? Seriously, it's not ok. The throat is sore enough as it is, and doing so will only exacerbate the condition.
