      Because they're creepy looking. I'm not afraid of clowns but I can understand why people are. The Burger King dude was creepy as heck too and he's pretty much a clown.

          Maybe they were frightened by them when they were children after going to the circus and having one of them jump up in their faces or something. I don't know lol.
