Formerly known as BCTV, the station changed its name to Global in 2001 as part of the WIC acquisition by Canwest. In 2010, Global BC and the Global Television Network became part of Shaw Media after Canwest was acquired by Shaw Communications of Calgary. In March of 2013, Global BC launched "Global News BC1" - the province's first and only 24 hour news channel. Led by a team of anchors, alongside a seasoned team of reporters and producers,Global News: BC1 is the destination for breaking news, community events and the latest happenings from around the province.
